If you are thinking about creating a new site and you would be starting from scratch. You might want to consider the following base requirements.
Hosting (always go linux!)
In the beginning you don’t need a large infrastructure. You should just get a cheap company like Dreamhost, GoDaddy, Hostmonster. All of them have there own problem because you get what you pay for. However, it gets the job done.
Width of Site
This depends on your audience. I site that fills the screen is always better but if you want a sleek solid design you might want to stick with 1000 px width.
Power built-in behind your design. (this is my favorite)
If you are starting off you will want the following packages.
- PHP
- MySQL
- LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM
- Script.aculo.us
- XAJAX
